At the backbone level each GLOBAL NAPs site is connected to neighboring sites via redundant OC-48 connections.  Utilizing Alcatel OmniCore 5200 series Gigabit switches in the core, twin Gigabit Ethernet links allow backbone traffic to remain at layer 2, eliminating needless latency and decreasing recovery times in the event of a network fault. 

 

 

Each router, is connected to dual backbones via Gigabit Ethernet, ensuring that even physical network outages cause minimum disruption.
